Welcome to the Egyptian capital, Cairo. Generously steeped in history and standing as one of the largest cityscapes in Egypt, there is much to be discovered here. You’ll be met at the airport by an Emerald Waterways representative and transferred to your centrally-located hotel. Day 2 Sun, 01 Nov Cairo – Luxor (B,D)

Today, you will be flown from Cairo to Luxor to visit the vast open-air temple complex of Karnak. Witness the ancient hieroglyphs that adorn the pillars still standing among the decaying temples and religious structures, including the hypostyle hall in the Precinct of Amun-Ra.

Day 3 Mon, 02 Nov Luxor – Nile Cruise Embarkation (B,L,D)

Soak in lush panoramas on the west bank of the River Nile this morning, as you visit the Mortuary Temple of Hatshepsut in Luxor, a woman whose reign is a storied part of Egyptian history. Day 5 Wed, 04 Nov Luxor – Esna - Kom Ombo – Nile Cruising (B,L,D)

Follow in the footsteps of ancient pharaohs today, as you weave down the meandering Nile. Here, charming villages and storied temples pepper the riverbanks, nestled amid vast desert landscapes. This morning, fly to Abu Simbel to visit one of the most celebrated monuments in Egypt. The UNESCO World Heritage-listed Abu Simbel temples were built by Ramesses II, and they stand as some of the best-preserved in the country.
This afternoon, return to Aswan for a guided boat tour on the Nile.

Day 7 Fri, 06 Nov Aswan – Cairo (B,L)

After breakfast, you’ll be transferred to Cairo International Airport to fly to Amman for a two-night stay. The Jordanian capital has flourished for thousands of years, forming what is now a modern city with a delightful scattering of ancient ruins, including the famed Temple of Hercules in the Amman Citadel. This evening, you will be invited to a home-hosted dinner with a local family, for a fascinating insight into their lives.

Day 11 Tue, 10 Nov Amman (B,L)

Start your day with an You’re Invited excursion as you explore the Roman Ruins of Jerash, where temples and theatres once formed the centre of imperial life in the city. Then, enjoy a delicious lunch of Jordanian specialities before returning to Amman for your city tour. Experience all the highlights of this bustling capital including the impressive Amman Citadel. Cast your gaze upon the ruins of the Roman Temple of Hercules and stroll between the royal and residential buildings of Umayyad Palace. Then, take a walking tour through the lively local markets with your tour director and experience local life.

Lawrence of Arabia was filmed here, and many cultures have left their mark on the area. Later, continue onwards to Petra and enjoy an afternoon of independent exploration.

Enjoy a guided tour of prehistoric Petra today. This magnificent UNESCO World Heritage-listed city is the legacy of the Nabataeans and their lost civilisation. Day 15 Sat, 14 Nov Depart Amman (B)

This morning, you’ll have the chance to either relax in your hotel or take part in a Discover More to visit Bethany Beyond the Jordan, where Jesus of Nazareth is thought to have been baptised by John the Baptist and where the first five apostles are said to have met. Later, it’s time to say goodbye and transfer to Amman airport for your homebound flight.
